Barry L. Gidman is the Geological Manager for Shelf Energy LLC. Mr. Gidman has been involved in the oil and gas industry as a geologist since 1978. He specializes in field studies and prospect exploration by integrating all phases of technical evaluation including geology, geophysics, engineering, economics, and risk analysis.
Mr. Gidman’s career spans a total of 43 years and he has been employed by Mobil Oil, Natomas North America, Coastal Oil & Gas, Tenneco Oil, Chevron Oil, and Stone Energy. Work locations included New Orleans, Houston, Corpus Christi, and Lafayette. In 2016 he formed Greenlight Exploration LLC in Lafayette.
Mr. Gidman has 34 years of conventional experience in exploration and development in the following basins: Onshore and Offshore Gulf Coast, Gulf of Mexico Deepwater, MAFLA, and Bohai Bay, China. He also has 9 years of resource exploration experience in the Appalachian, Illinois, Permian, and Western Canadian Basins.
Mr. Gidman received his Bachelor of Geological Engineering degree from Colorado School of Mines in 1977. As an undergraduate student, he was employed by Kansas Nebraska Natural Gas in Golden, Colorado, and Peabody Coal Company in Price, Utah. He has also completed some MBA coursework at LSU. Mr. Gidman has been a member/officer of the Lafayette Geological Society and a member of SIPES, presented technical talks at various professional societies, and authored articles on horizontal drilling.
